The maiden international flight from the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, is set to take off on Saturday.

The flight, which will be the first since the airport was granted Presidential approval for the upgrade to an international status, will be conveying passengers to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana.

A statement by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said the maiden international flight operations would be handled by Ibom Air, the flagship airline owned by the State government.

Umanah said the itinerary of the airline showed the flight is scheduled to return to the country from Ghana the following day, Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The Commissioner said the historic operations milestone by Ibom Airlines represents a significant step in the State government’s strategic drive to expand its aviation handling capacity, enhance international connectivity, and position Akwa Ibom as a preferred destination for tourism and investment.

While this maiden flight signals the commencement of international operations from Uyo, Umanah said the official opening of the new terminal building and full commercial flight schedules would be announced in due course.

Since the upgrade of the status of the Victor Attah Airport, Uyo, the State government has made concerted investments to put in place all required technical and infrastructural facilities befitting an airport of international standard.

While appreciating the Federal Government for granting the approval for the upgrade of the status of the airport, the Commissioner thanked successive administrations in the state for their contributions and various pioneering roles in the development of the aviation sector in the state.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to the sustained development of the aviation ecosystem for the economic advancement of the State.
