NIES 2024 organisers unveil speakers scheduled for the global energy summit

NUPRC unveils 23-points agenda in three-year regulatory action plan

Distinguished speakers confirmed to participate in the forthcoming Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2024 have been unveiled.

The Summit, which has the theme: ‘Navigating the new energy world order: Security, Transition, and Finance’, is scheduled for the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, between February 26 to March 1, 2024.

The event, which would provide the forum for the energy sector operators, policy makers and other stakeholders to share ideas and knowledge on the challenges, prospects and opportunities under the new global energy order, would be graced by President Bola Tinubu, who would deliver the keynote address.

Organisers of the Summit said on Monday that Tinubu’s participation would not only elevate Nigeria’s standing in the global energy community, but also foster global collaborations transcending geographical boundaries.

Other key participants confirmed for the event include the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, who would present the Gas Industry Address, while the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, would deliver the Oil Industry Address.

The organisers said among internationally acclaimed speakers expected at the four-day event include the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Secretary General, Haitham Al Ghais; 

Secretary General, African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), Omar Farouk Ibrahim; Secretary General, Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Mohamed Hamel,and Secretary General, International Energy Forum (IEF), Joseph McMonigle. 

From the industry, the organisers said speakers who have confirmed their participation include the Chairman, International Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG)/ Waltersmith Group, Abdulrazaq Isa; Country Chair/CEO, Shell Companies in Nigeria/ Chairman, Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), Osagie Okunbor, and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brittania-U, Catherine Uju Ifejika.

Other speakers include the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari; Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Elohor Aiboni; Executive Chairman, Platform Petroleum Ltd/Chairman, AA Holdings Limited, Austin Avuru; CEO, TotalEnergies, Matthieu Bouyer; CEO, Exxonmobil Nigeria, Shane Harris; Group CEO, Oando Plc, Adewale Tinubu, Chairman/MD, Chevron Nigeria, Rick Kennedy, and a host of others.

The organisers said the Summit would reflect on the imperative for stakeholders in the energy industry to collaboratively address challenges related to security, adapt to the changing energy landscape, and mobilize financial resources for a sustainable and resilient future.

Chief Executive, Brevity Anderson, the conference producers, and event organisers, James Shindi, said: “This theme will encourage discussions and initiatives that will contribute to shaping a dynamic and responsible global energy paradigm.

“NIES 2024 promises to be a groundbreaking summit, bringing together key players in the energy sector to explore the challenges and opportunities in the new energy world order. We are honoured to facilitate a platform that fosters dialogue and collaboration among industry leaders.” 

He said as tradition dictates, NIES 2024 is expected to draw the highest level of attendance from top decision-makers, industry leaders, and stakeholders across Africa and the global energy community.

Reputed to be Nigeria’s official annual Oil and Gas meeting, NIES 2024 will serve as the official platform for dialogue and collaboration within the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.

Jointly hosted by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and its parastatals, NIES brings together key industry players, decision-makers, and stakeholders to address critical issues and opportunities in the evolving energy landscape.
