Katsina govt. inaugurates implementation committee on compulsory insurance
By Bassey Udo
The Katsina State government on Tuesday demonstrated its commitment to entrench the compulsory insurance policy culture among the people by inaugurating the Technical Committee on the Sensitisation/Implementation of ‘Takaful’ scheme in the state.
Takaful is the insurance policy introduced by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) for Muslims and other Islamic faithfuls in Nigeria.
Performing the inauguration in the state capital, the State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, said the committee would be chaired by the state Commissioner for Commerce, Muktar Gidado Abdulkadir, with the Executive Chairman, Katsina State Internal revenue service, Mustapha Mohammed Sirajo as co-chair.
Other members of the Committee included representatives of the NAICOM, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Office of the Head of Service in the State, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies.
Masari said the the initiative to introduce Takaful insurance by NAICOM was a welcome development that would serve as an alternative, especially to attract people of the state who are left out due to religious or cultural barriers.
He assured NAICOM of the Katsina State Government’s full support in the development of insurance policy in the State.
The inauguration of the Technical Committee on the Sensitisation/Implementation of compulsory insurances and Takaful in the state was witnessed by the Deputy governor of the state, Mannir Yakubu, along with other members of the state executive council.
