Outgoing OPEC Secretary General, Muhammad Barkindo, is dead

Barkindo declaring open the 21st NOG Conference in Abuja on Tuesday

The Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum. Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, is dead.
Barkindo died in Abuja few hours after declaring open the ongoing 21st Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Conference and Exhibition in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, who confirmed Barkindo’s dead through his verified Twitter handle said the OPEC scribe who was billed to exit office at the end of this month died at about 11 pm on Tuesday.

“We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,” Kyari announced through his Twitter handle, @MKKyari.
