The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc on Monday condemned the assault on its staff by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

The electricity distribution company said the incident, which occurred on Monday, June 6, 2022 described it as “unrestrained, brazen and condemnable.”

The marketing manager of AEDC, Donald Etim, said the assault of the affected staff was carried out by a group of five staff of the anti-graft agency.

“The team of EFCC staff visited the premises of AEDC without notice or any warrants and violated the rights of law-abiding citizens of this country. Several staff of the company were physically assaulted, unlawfully arrested and arbitrarily detained without cause or justification.

“These operatives acted unprofessionally and in absolute disregard of the laws and precepts of the country they were employed to serve.

“As a responsible corporate organization, we wish to state that we unequivocally condemn this action in its entirety. The law is clear. Any law enforcement official who commits violations against law-abiding citizens must be brought to justice and redress must be provided to the victims,” Etim said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said the AEDC management would explore all legal measures to ensure redress for what it described as” gross and regrettable violation of our rights.”
The company did not provide any further details about what really happened, or what caused the assault.

“AEDC values every member of staff and does not tolerate any intimidation, threat or assault by members of the public or any institution against any of its representatives in the course of discharging their duties,” the company said.

While imploring its staff to remain steadfast and law-abiding citizens as they perform their lawful duties, the AEDC reassured them that it would do everything within the law to seek redress over the incident.

Calls to EFCC to seek their side of the story were not successful, as the spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, did not respond.
