Global oil and gas industry leaders, among them the outgoing Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammad Barkindo, are expected to grace the 5th edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) scheduled for Abuja.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who disclosed this a pre-Summit media briefing on Thursday said other international guests that have confirmed their participation in the five days summit include the Minister of Energy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, who would be represented by Nasser AlDossary.
Others Minister of Mines and Energy, Namibia Tom Alweendo; Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Equatorial Guinea, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, and Minister of Hydrocarbons, Democratic Republic of Congo, Aime Ngoy Mukena.
Sylva who described the Summit as Nigeria’s official energy industry event said joint hosts include the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and all its parastatals, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NURPC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and Petroleum Training Institute (PTI).
The theme of the summit scheduled for February 27 to March 3, 2022 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, is “Revitalizing the Industry: Future Fuels and Energy Transition”, with the objective to drive a new narrative and make energy transition the cornerstone of the country’s industry policy.
In line with the global agenda for energy transition and the need for Nigeria to remain relevant and ahead, the Minister said the 2022 edition would have over 5,000 participants from about 53 countries; 4,182 sq m exhibition space occupied by about 60 exhibitors and five country pavilions.
Also, he said the Summit would feature about 11 plenary sessions, seven breakout sessions, four Special presentations, three cocktail receptions, Award/Gala Dinner, and several MoU signings/Side events.
He said key international and indigenous companies, like Shell Petroleum & Development Company Limited, Total Exploration & Production, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, Dangote Refinery, Waltersmith Petroman and a host of others are expected to use the summit platform for special presentations to drive their aspirations and launch major projects.
