The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) has again been adjudged the best organisation in terms of compliance with the regulatory requirement by public institutions on Freedom of Information (FOI) disclosures.

The investment promotion was chosen as the most responsive government agency out of the 232 government agencies evaluated in throughout the country.

The announcement of the Commission as the winner was made on Friday in Abuja during the National Freedom of Information Awards organised by the European Union,
International Press Centre and Media Right Agenda.

NIPC was adjudged the first position in this year’s rankings

After emerging second best organisation consecutively for two years – 2019 and 2020, the Commission moved to the top spot in 2021, bridging over 73 places in the ranking ladder in the last four years.

Receiving the award from the NIPC FoI Award Committee after the investiture, the Acting Executive Secretary of NIPC, Emeka Offor, said the phenomenal achievement of the Commission would inspire it to strive to be more open and transparent in its dealings with the public.

“Recognition is the highest level of motivation that amongst your peers you are recognised and
rewarded as the best,” he said.

Offor commended the NIPC team for winning the Award, saying this was a great and further motivation to the management and staff of the Commission to do more.

He noted that since the Commission was adjudged the best agency in FOI
ranking, all departments and units in the Commission would need to keep their eyes on the ball to remain on top.

The Acting NIPC boss charged the management and staff to deepen their efforts so that the agency would in the nearest future win more awards for attracting the highest quantum of
investments to the country and as the best investment promotion agency in the world.

The Chairman, NIPC FOI Committee, Sabo Isiaku said winning the FOI Award was an excellent parting gift for NIPC’s immediate past Executive Secretary/CEO, Yewande Sadiku and a good omen for heer successor, Offor.

Isiaku said the criteria used to rank Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) included their responsiveness to request for information by the public, for which category the NIPC came tops for the first time.

He assured that more efforts would be made by the FOI team to maintain the Commission’s achievement and position as the best government agency on the FOI ranking.
