To fill top positions in its management hierarchy that have remained vacant since last year, indications are that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation appears set to announce new appointments and redeployments any time this week.
A source close to the national oil company told our reporter on Monday President Muhammadu Buhari has already given the Board of the corporation and the Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, the go ahead to make the appointments.
The source who requested that his name should not be revealed, as he did not have the permission to speak on the issue officially, said most of the positions to be filled are those that became vacant since December 2020 following either voluntary resignations or the attainment of statutory retirement ages by their previous occupants.
Some of the positions to be filled include those of the Chief Operating Officer (Downstream), which has not been occupied since December 2020 following the attainment of the statutorily retirement age of 60 by Lawrencia Ndupu.
Ndupu was the representative of the South-East region in the NNPC top management.
A new appointee would be taking over the extra official schedule added to Adeyemi Adetunji, the Chief Operating Officer (Ventures and Business Development) who, for some time, has been doubling as the COO (Downstream) of the Corporation.
Other appointments expected to be anounced this week may include successors to the vacant positions created following the retirement of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Gas Marketing Company and his counterpart in the Port Harcourt Refinery and Petrochemical Company.
Two other top officials of the Corporation, including the Managing Director, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Musa Lawal, and the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Kennie Obateru, are nearing their retirement from the company next month.
Barring any last minute change in plans, their successors may be announced along with others to fill the vacant positions, the source said.
