NCC clarifies Airtel Nigeria’s license renewal status

MEDIATRACNET

Airtel’s Nigeria is yet to renew its operating license, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said.
NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde, who confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, in Abuja said this was contrary to reports credited to the Managing Director of the telemobile firm, Segun Ogunsanya, that the Commission has since renewed Airtel mobile operating license for another 10 years period.
“Mr Ogunsanya was said to have made the statement while speaking in Lagos on July 14, 2021, during the media launch of Airtel’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, ‘Touching Lives 6”, Adinde said.
The Commission, he said, has received an application from Airtel Nigeria for the renewal of the Unified Access Service (UASL) License granted to the company by the telecom sector regulator, but the application is yet to be approved.
“The application is undergoing the required regulatory process,” he said.
At the launch of ‘Airtel Touching Lives Season 6’ on Wednesday in Lagos, Ogunsanya, noted that Airtel earned a ‘Social License’ through its commitment to empowering and uplifting people and making a positive and lasting impact on the lives of its stakeholders. (NAN)
