Twitter on Friday announced the permanent suspension of the account of President Donald Trump, @realDonaldTrump.
In a statement announcing the decision to suspend further tweets from the embattled President’s handle, Twitter said: “After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”
The suspension of Mr Trump’s account is coming 48 hours after his supporters invaded the Capitol Hill in Washington and overwhelm security operatives in a failed attempt to disrupt the proceedings of Congress to ratify the election of Joe Biden as the in-coming U.S. President
Initially, Twitter had placed a 12-hour seal on Mr Trump’s account for “repeated and severe violations” of the company’s Civic Integrity policy” following several of his posts alleging fraud against Mr Biden’s election were reviewed and found false.
Despite warnings and threats to permanently ban him if continued to violate use his handle to violate its rules, Mr Trump did not listen, as two new tweets after his initial suspension was against established guidelines.
The two tweets were considered by Twitter as highly inflammable and capable of inciting the people to further violence and disruption of public and safety.
