The African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) says it was determined to increase its role of advocacy, and engagement with global organizations and regional industry to promote Africa’s fossil energy
growth and global energy stability and security.
The group stated this as it prepares to participate in the forthcoming forthcoming 24th World Petroleum Congress (WPC) scheduled for September 17-21, 2023 in Calgary, Canada.
For the first time in its 36-year history, the APPO says it was partnering with the WPC as a Supporting Organization to create a platform for African Countries, National Oil Companies, Independent Petroleum Producers, and the entire energy business value chain to expand the frontiers of business through strategic partnerships, investments, technical and economic cooperation as well as showcase APPO’s activities on the African continent.
APPO plans to host the Africa Pavilion within the WPC Exhibition as well as the Africa Energy Futures Forum on the margins of the Congress.
The Exhibition and Forum are expected to provide APPO the opportunity to create awareness on its mandate of fostering fruitful collaboration and partnerships while promoting energy security, sustainable development and economic diversification in Africa.
Also, the two events would align APPO’s mission and goals with the energy programmes of several international organizations, including the African Development Bank, the World Petroleum Council, the World Energy Council, the African Union, the United Nations.
Highlights of Africa’s participation at the 24th WPC are expected to include hosting the Africa Pavilion and a VIP Breakfast Africa Energy Business Roundtable on September 20 on the theme “Unveiling the Enhanced Competitive Business and Investment Environment in the African Fossil Energy Industry Landscape.”
An invitation-only Africa Energy Futures Forum for CEOs of National Oil Companies and Ministries from New African Energy Markets with CEOs of Regional and International Financial Institutions, International Law Firms, Business Consulting and Financial Advisory Services Firms, Industry Associations, National and International Chambers of Commerce is also planned for September 21, 2023.
The theme for the Forum will be “Financing the Emerging Decarbonized Fossil Energy Industry in Africa”.
The APPO statement said another strategic engagement will be held with the Alberta Province, energy industry associations such as the Canadian Gas Association; the Canada Association of Petroleum Producers, ENSERVA, Canada Global Energy Forum, Calgary Chamber of Commerce, to achieve the net benefit of enabling Canadian investments and strategic economic cooperation in the Africa Fossil Energy Industry.
The African Energy Futures Forum is a Pan African, thought leadership and strategic platform created to amplify advocacy and activate action on issues affecting the growth of regional energy markets and engage the global energy finance community to deepen the level of financing and evolve creative and innovative paradigms to energy finance even as the region seeks to ameliorate the investment environment to enable cross border transactions, foreign direct investments and generate increased volumes in mergers and acquisitions, green energy projects all aimed towards achieving a quantum leap for energy security and affordability in Africa.
Highlights of the Forum will include VIP Africa Energy Finance Leadership Breakfast meeting for Africa Oil Ministers, CEOs of IOCs and NOCs, and Energy Business Titans in the global markets.
The Forum will also feature plenary sessions and panel discussion sessions, Ministerial Session, Country and Corporate Spotlight Sessions and the Project Pitch Platform.
During the Congress, APPO will engage with the Canadian Energy Industry in Calgary, the hub of the Canadian Energy Industry, especially Oil and Gas.
Calgary, which has the largest concentration of energy companies, industry and professional associations in Canada, is the third largest oil reserves in the world and is the world’s fourth largest oil producer and fourth largest oil exporter and world’s largest producer of oil sands bitumen in the world.
Again, Alberta is the largest producer of conventional crude oil, synthetic crude, natural gas and natural gas liquids products in Canada.
To ensure that Member Countries f APPO maximize value from participation in the WPC and that the platform generates new investments and technical cooperation opportunities, the Secretariat says it was working with the Project Partners, Dexterite Consulting/AfricaEnergyFutures to deliver a high-impact presence that will generate a strong portfolio of new projects, investments, partnerships for participating African organizations and the global energy business community gathered in Canada for the triennial congress regarded as the Olympics of the global oil and gas industry.
