Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Limited says it is in a better position to produce and supply premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, in excess of national daily consumption requirements.
The company said with the full restoration and optimisation of operations in its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) production block after a successful scheduled maintenance exercise, the refinery was ready to produce at full capacity to deliver an average of 75 million litres of PMS daily to the domestic fuel market.
The refinery’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Bird, who disclosed this the seamless integration and strong performance of the units demonstrate the refinery’s advanced engineering and robust operational capabilities.
“Our teams have demonstrated exceptional precision and expertise in stabilising both the CDU and MS Block, and we are pleased to see them functioning at optimal efficiency.
“This performance testing phase enables us to validate the entire plant under real operating conditions. We are confident that the refinery remains firmly on track to deliver consistent, world class output,” Bird said.
The milestone by the company, he said, underscores the strength, reliability, and engineering quality that define operations, adding that the refinery remains committed to producing high quality refined petroleum products that would transform Nigeria’s energy landscape, eliminate import dependence, and position the nation as a net exporter of petroleum products.
The CDU and MS Block, which comprise the naphtha hydrotreater, isomerisation unit, and reformer unit, Bird said, were now operating steadily at the full nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
He further confirmed that all remaining processing units would begin their respective performance test runs in the second phase of the refinery operations scheduled to commence next week.
Expressing appreciation to customers and Nigerians across the country, Bird reaffirmed the refinery’s unwavering commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s energy security, while supporting industrial development, job creation, and economic diversification.
The December 2025 Factsheet report by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on the state of downstream and midstream sector of the petroleum industry said performance of the refinery, in terms of the production and supply of petroleum to the domestic market increased significantly from an average of 19.47 million litres per day in November 2025 to an average supply of 32.012 million litres per day in December 2025.
With prospects of the refining and supplying up to 75 million litres of petrol when it begins operating at full installed capacity, hope is high that the NMDPRA’s estimate of 50 million litres per day national daily petrol consumption requirement would be exceeded by about 25 million litres.
