Amos Azi, Chairman IST

The Chairman of the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST), Amos Azi, retained his position as President Bola Tinubu approves the appointment of new members.

The reappointment of Mr Azi and the reconstitution of the IST followed the recommendations from the Minister of State for Finance pursuant to Sections 315 and 319(2) of the Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025.

The appointment of the new Tribunal marks a significant step towards strengthening the adjudicatory framework of the Nigerian Capital Market to consolidate the remarkable achievements of the agency in recent years.

The newly appointed members bring on board their rich experiences in Capital Market, Law, Finance and public service to enhance the efficiency of the Tribunal in justice delivery and in promoting investors’ confidence in the Nigerian economy.

The newly appointed members include the former Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), Orya Ungwaga Roberts.

Others include Gboyega Oyekanmi, Felix Onwuneme, Shehu Lawal Mandiya, Robert Uchenna Okwuego, Osaze Ize–Iyamu, Ummahani Ahmad Amin, Ali Sadiq Mohammed, Olatunde M. Amolegbe, Udegbulam Athanatius Chukwuemeka, and Kamarudee Oladosu.

The IST is a specialized adjudicatory body established by the Federal Government under the provisions of the ISA 2025 (as amended) to enable a timeous resolution of disputes and enforce rights arising from investments and securities transactions in the economy.

The IST is a very critical capital market infrastructure which serves to ensure fairness, transparency and integrity in our financial market, thereby promoting investors’ confidence.

Under Azi, the tribunal was able to build confidence of both existing and prospective investors in the Nigerian economy as a result of how matters that were brought before it were judiciously and fairly resolved.

The inauguration of the reconstituted IST, which has already been scheduled for Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja, will mark a fresh beginning to build on the gains and achievements already recorded.
