A new Chief Corporate Communications Officer has been appointed for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
A statement by the management of the company in Abuja on Wednesday named the new appointee as Olufemi Soneye.
Soneye, who would succeed the immediate past Group General Manager of the Group Public Affairs Division, Garbadeen Muhammad, who retired recently from the company.
The NNPC statement said Soneye would henceforth be leading its Corporate Communications team to drive its brand penetration, strategic communications initiatives, and stakeholder management.
As Chief Corporate Communications Officer, industry observers described Soneye’s position as a massive downgrade from the traditional high rank of the past occupiers of the office as Group General Managers.
Although little is known of Soneye in media circles in Nigeria, the NNPC described him as “a seasoned journalist with full-time and freelance experiences at some of the world’s most respected publications in Nigeria, Australia, and the U.S.”
“He is a member of reputable bodies, including the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists, and the Guild of Corporate Online Media Publishers,” the company said.
“He is the former President of the Nigerian Media Practitioners, Washington, D.C. We look forward to his valuable contributions to our Company,” the statement added.
