NUPRC directs operators to provide monthly crude oil price quotes for sustainable domestic refining

By Bassey Udo

Nigeria’s crude oil production output in August stood at an average of 1.5 million barrels per day, latest Crude Oil and Condensate Production for August 2025 data by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) have shown.

The data revealed that during the month the lowest and peak combined crude and condensate production volumes were 1.59 million bopd and 1.85 million bopd respectively.

The data, which showed Nigeria’s capacity to meet about 96% of its production quota by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) under the OPEC agreement.

Overall, indications are Nigeria’s upstream oil sector recorded a year-on-year increase in production output, averaging 1.63 million barrels per day (bopd) of crude oil and condensates in August 2025, compared with an average of about 1.58 million bopd recorded in the corresponding period last year.

A breakdown of August 2025 production figures showed an output of 1.43 million bopd of crude oil (about 5.47% increase) compared with a daily crude oil average output of 1.36 million bopd posted in August last year.

The Commission said the increased performance was a reflection of a steady recovery and improved operational performance across the industry.

Details of the performance showed that daily condensate production in August stood at 197,229 bpd, reflecting a slight decline from 220,435 bpd in the corresponding period in August 2024.

On a month-on-month basis, the Commission reported a slim 4.7% drop in combined crude oil and condensate production, from 1.71 million bopd in July, with a similar decline in crude oil production by 4.8%, from 1.5 million bopd in July 2025.

The Commission explained that the month-on-month drop in production output was driven by a single day unscheduled maintenance at an oil facility.

Further review of the production details revealed that during the month, Forcados Terminal, from where the bulk of the country’s oil exports activities take place, topped the production charts, delivering a total of 8.99 million barrels, including 8.08 million barrels of crude oil and 915,200 barrels of condensates.

Following closely was Bonny Terminal, which produced a combined 6.26 million barrels, consisting of 5.8 million barrels of crude and 418,270 barrels of condensates.

Meanwhile, Qua Iboe Terminal recorded a total of 4.99 million barrels, with 4.94 million barrels of crude and 50,500 barrels of condensates.

Escravos Oil Terminal also made a solid contribution, producing 4.18 million barrels, comprised of 4.08 million barrels of crude oil and 107,000 barrels of condensate.
