The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and NNPC Energy Services (ENSERV) on Tuesday agreed to partner and collaborate to support efforts to realise Nigeria’s national energy objectives.
In a meeting in Abuja described as pivotal to realizing the goal in the oil and gas sector, both agencies expressed their commitment to cultivating a productive and results-oriented partnership towards meeting set targets in the industry.
The meeting was between the Commission Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, and the Managing Director of NNPC Energy Services (ENSERV), Sotonye Pinnick, who led a delegation to the Commission’s headquarters to introduce its new management team.
During the meeting, Pinnick, on behalf of ENSERV, expressed a strong commitment to collaborating with NUPRC, particularly in the area of exploration of frontier oil and gas basins, which is considered crucial for enhancing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves and improving the nation’s energy security.
Engr. Komolafe congratulated the new leadership team at ENSERV and emphasised the importance of regulatory cooperation as mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021.
He urged ENSERV to stay aligned with global energy transition trends, prioritise innovation and operate with a strong environmental consciousness.
Also, he highlighted the necessity of executing their budget plans promptly to help realise set industry targets in the country.
Nigeria has the national aspirations of raising its oil production capacity to three million barrels per day by 2030 and national oil reserve to over 40 billion barrels over the same period.
The NUPRC said in a statement at the end of the meeting that both parties were committed to fostering a productive and results-driven partnership that would support Nigeria’s energy objectives.
The Commission said the strategic collaboration signifies a forward-thinking approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector.
