The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited on Wednesday said the leadership of the company under its outgoing Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari and Board left indelible marks in the country and economy.
In a short, but emotion-laden statement signed by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the NNPC Ltd. said while welcoming the successor GCEO and Board, the management and staff express profound appreciation to Kyari, and the former Board for their selfless and dedicated service to the nation.
The statement reads: “The Management and staff of NNPC Ltd have welcomed the appointment of a new Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, and Board of Directors for the Company by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We extend our profound appreciation to the outgoing GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, and the
former Board Members for their selfless and dedicated service to the Company and to the nation.
“Mr. Kyari’s leadership and tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on NNPC Ltd., and we are sincerely grateful for his outstanding contributions.
“We wish him and all departing Board Members continued success and fulfilment in
their future endeavours.”
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu announced a change of leadership in the company, with the appointment of Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new GCEO, and Ahmadu Musa Kida as the successor to the Chairman of the Board, Pius Akinyelure, but as a non-executive Chairman.
A statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said all other members of the Board appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023 were also affected by the changes, while Adedapo Segun, who replaced Umaru Isa Ajiya as the chief financial officer last November, would join the new 11-man board as member.
Onanuga said the board members and non-executive directors represent the country’s geopolitical zones.
They included Bello Rabiu, representing North West; Yusuf Usman (North East), and Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) (North Central); Austin Avuru, a non-executive director from the South-South; David Ige as a non-executive director from the southwest, and Henry Obih, a non-executive director from the South East.
“Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya, permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the new board, while Aminu Said Ahmed will represent the Ministry of Petroleum Resources,” Onanuga said.
