Uwaleke named Special Adviser to Chairman Senate Committee On Banking

Renowned Professor of Finance and Capital Markets, who is also a former Commissioner of Finance in Imo State, Uche Uwaleke has been named the Special Adviser to the Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.

Uwaleke, who is Nigeria’s first Professor of Capital Market, was notified of his appointment in a letter dated January 25, 2024.

The letter, with reference number NASS/10/S/COBIF/02, signed by the Clerk/Deputy Director Legislative, Ogunrinde.G. Tinuke, said his appointment was in recognition of his deep knowledge of the country’s financial system.

“I write in respect of the above subject matter to formally convey to you the Chairman’s approval for your engagement as the Special Adviser to the Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.

“This is in recognition of your deep knowledge of the country’s financial system, which I have come to acknowledge.

“I have no doubt that your expertise in the field of banking and finance will be of great assistance to me and other members of my Committee in the effective discharge of our oversight function on the country’s Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions,” the letter read.

The appointment is coming about five months after the university Don was appointed Special Adviser on Capital Market to the Chairman of Senate Committee on Capital Market, Osita Izunaso.

Uwaleke, an accomplished television and radio analyst on banking and finance issues, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

He is a former Head of Banking and Finance Department at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, former Chairman of CIBN, Abuja Branch and former Member of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

In 2022, the immediate past Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed had during the launch of Uwaleke’s books, described him as a major contributor to the development of the economy through his insightful analysis of finance and economic issues.

Uche Uwaleke is a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and currently the Director of the Institute of Capital Market Studies at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
