The Steering Committee of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PICNG) held it’s inaugural meeting on Thursday IN Abuja to strategise on ways to expedite action on the implementation of the Presidential directives on the CNG Initiative.
The Committee was set up as part of efforts by the Federal Government to find alternative fuel to the premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, in the wake of the recent decision to remove fuel subsidy from the pricing template of petroleum products in the country.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment of the members of the PICNG Steering Committee with a mandate to explore the development and promotion of natural gas as an alternative fuel to petrol in alignment with the administration’s commitment to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
Members of the committee included the acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, as the committee lead, along with the Special Adviser to the president on Energy, Olu Verheijen; the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, and the Managing Director of Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Armstrong Takang.
Other members include the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power, and New Energy at NNPC Limited, Olalekan Ogunleye; the Special Assistant to the President (Domestic), Toyin Subair, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Finance), Denike Laoye.
The Deputy Director, Corporate Communications and Stakeholder’s Management in NMDPRA, Kimchi Apollo, said the inaugural meeting held in Abuja discussed issues bordering of strategies to be adopted to realise the presidential mandate on CNG.
