World BankPresident to visit Nigeria August 3

In continuation of his global tour, the World Bank President, Ajay Banga, is scheduled for a three-day visit to Nigeria from Thursday, August 3, 2023.

A statement from the Bank said the visit would be the next step of a global tour as part of a mission to write a new playbook for the 78-year-old financial institution.

During the visit, Banga is expected to focus on identifying opportunities to create jobs for young people and women, address the energy needs and opportunities for renewable energy, and further explore the potential for digitization.

As part of these efforts, the statement said the President would visit a World Bank financed mini-grid power plant providing solar energy to an entire community.

He would also visit the woman-owned business that has

generated more than 1,500 service-sector jobs for young Nigerians.

While in Nigeria, the World Bank President would hold a meeting meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to discuss issues on moving the country forward.

In addition, the World Bank would convene discussions with representatives from the

private sector and civil society.

Banga is arriving after a two-day visit to Ethiopia and would be joined by his wife, Ritu Banga.

The African visit follows earlier tour stops in Peru, Jamaica, and India.
