Right-of-way: Federal, state governments agree to end delays to power projects

The Federal and State Governments are to work together to address the issue of right-of-way identified as the cause of delays in the execution of many power projects in the country.

Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, said the Ministry has resolved to engage the state governors through the Nigerian Governors Forum, to address the problem to ensure timely completion of power projects.

The Minister spoke when the management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company visited him in his office in Abuja.

The ministry, he said, was taking inventory of all the challenges associated with the right-of-way of power projects nationwide to engage state governors with.

While commending Eko Electricity Distribution company for being the best electricity distribution company in terms of financial performance, Aliyu urged other electricity distribution companies to emulate its example.
Eko DISCo, he said, could do more in the area of customer care and confidence building among customers.

He said the Nigerian government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari was doing its best in providing the enabling environment for all segments of the electricity value chain to ensure optimal performance.

On power theft, Aliyu said currently there were over 100 ongoing projects by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) that would help in addressing power theft and to ensure grid stability.

Chairman , Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Dere Otubu, rold the Minister their visit was to congratulate him and to encourage him to continue the good work towards improved power supply in the country.

The chairman solicited the support of the Minister for increased power capacity for Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

Dere who was accompanied by the Managing Director, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Fadeyibi Adeoye, called for government’s intervention to end power theft.

He reiterated the commitment of the company for better services to its customers and the willingness of the company to partner with the federal government for rural electrification.
