Doyin Salami appointed Buhari’s Chief Economic Adviser

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), Doyin Salami, as his Chief Economic Adviser.

The appointment of Mr. Salami, a professor of economics, and one-time member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was announced by the Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, on Tuesday.

Adesina said as the Chief Economic Adviser to the President (CEAP), Salami would be “expected to address all issues on the domestic economy and present views on them to the President; closely monitor national and international developments, trends, and develop appropriate policy responses; develop and recommend to the President national economic policies to foster macro-economic stability, promote growth, create jobs, and eradicate poverty, among others.”

A 1989 doctorate degree graduate in Economics of Queen Mary College, University of London, Doyin Salami, 59, is the Managing Director and Head Markets Practice at KAINOS Edge Consulting Limited.

Prior to the latest apppointment, Salami, an indigene of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, served as the Chairman, Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) since September 16, 2019.

Born on April 4, 1963, Salami is a renowned Economist, Lecturer and Consultant, a Senior Fellow/Associate Professor and Faculty member at the Lagos Business School (LBS), Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.

He began his career with Adetutu & Co. Limited before joining the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics.

Beyond leading sessions at the Lagos Business School, Salami is a consultant for several multinational organisations, including Department for International Development (DFID), World Bank, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
