NNPC ‘pocketed’ N3.88 trn belonging to Nigerian govt. in 2015, says Audit Report

As reported by this newspaper, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Monday announced the promotion of some of its top management staff, while redeploying others to fill key positions that remained vacant since December 2020.
The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, said the exercise was undertaken to help strengthen and reposition the national oil company towards attaining global excellence and profitability.
Also, he said the new appointments would enable the Corporation live up to the expectations of Nigerians and achieve its vision of becoming a world-class energy company of choice.
The new appointments saw a one-time General Manager, Group Public Affairs Department, Garbadeen Mohammed, returning to his former office.
Until his appointment,
Mohammed which is currently the Senior Special Adviser to the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, would be taking over from the incumbent, Kennie Obateru, who is due for retirement from service in September.
Details of the new appointments and redeployments by the outgoing GM GPAD, Kennie Obateru, Billy Okoye was appointed the new Group Executive Director (Ventures & Business Development, while Aisha Ahmadu-Katagum was promoted to the position of Group Executive Director, Corporate Services.
Until their new appointments, Okoye and Ahmadu-Katagum were Group General Managers, Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD) and Supply Chain Management Division in the Corporation, respectively.
Also, Adeyemi Adetunji, formerly Chief Operating Officer (Business & Ventures Development) was named the Group Executive Director, Downstream, while Mohammed Abdulkabir Ahmed, formerly Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services, now becomes the Group Executive Director, Gas & Power.
Other Chief Operating Officer positions in the Corporation have now been redesignated as Group Executive Directors (GEDs), to align with the new rules of the Company & Allied Matters Act (CAMA), preparatory to the new status of the Corporation as a Limited Liability Company, post-Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
The repositioning exercise also saw the disengagement of Yusuf Usman, formerly Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power.
As earlier reported, most of the appointments were to fill
positions that became vacant since December 2020 following either voluntary resignations or the attainment of statutory retirement ages by their previous occupants.
