The process for the admission of fresh students into universities and polytechnics across the country is set to commence with the approval by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for individual school authorities to fix the minimum cut-off marks for 2021-2022 admissions.
With the approval announced on Tuesday at the end of the 2021 policy meeting in Abuja, the Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, said JAMB has canceled National Cut-Off Mark for all universities and polytechnics for the 2021/2022 admissions.
The meeting chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, also resolved that JAMB would involve its officials, heads of tertiary institutions, Ministry of Education, and other important stakeholders in the process.
Although individual universities are at liberty to determine their minimum cut off marks to guide their admissions, Oloyede said universities were not allowed to go below 120 marks, while polytechnics and colleges of education would have a minimum cut off marks of 100 for admission.
On the total fee for Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (PUTME), the Registrar said no instruction is allowed to charge more than N2,000.
Oloyede warned institutions against going beyond the pegged fee.
“Nobody should charge more than N2,000. The total gross is N2, 000. It is not allowed by institutions to allow candidates to procure administrative charges.
“No institution is allowed to capture or demand any result upload. It is the one that we upload on caps that we will send to all of you. The biometrics supplied by JAMB should be used for the admission exercise.”
JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the release of the approved cut-off mark at the meeting signals the commencement of the admission processes into tertiary institutions across the country.
