Normal supply of electricity was restored in Kaduna State on Wednesday by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) following the decision by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to suspend the five- day warning strike embarked by the workers in the state.
Last Sunday, the TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah announced protesting members of the NLC in Kaduna State forced officials of the company to shut down all electricity transmissin stations in the State prior to the planned state-wide industrial action scheduled to commence last Monday.
Mbah said despite stiff resistance, TCN officials were forced to shut down all 33kV feeder stations radiating from substations within Kaduna State.
Following the shutdown of the TCN facilities, normal supply of electricity was disrupted throughout the state for about 72 hours.
However, the industrial action took a different turn on Tuesday, as hoodlums suspected to have been sponsored by the State governor attacked the protesting workers as they marched through the streets in Kaduna.
To avoid further exposure of the workers to danger, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba on Wednesday announced the suspension of the three-day old strike to pave way for mediation by the Federal Government.
Consequently, Mbah also said on Wednesday TCN resolved to restore power supply on all its 33kV feeders that Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) had indicated readiness to pick supply from.
Mbah said the 33kV feeder stations include those located at Mogadishu, Abakwa, NAF base, Ungwa Dosa, Turunku, AREWA, Airport, Kinkinau , Narayi and Independence layout.
Other feeder stations that have been energised, Mbah said, include the Jaji and Rigasa feeders, while Olam, PAN and UNTL are about to be energized.
Also, Mbah said although the Waterworks feeder station 7was energized, it tripped off following a fault detected on the side of KAEDCO.
She assured that TCN would continue to gradually restore supply on the other feeder stations as soon as KAEDCO indicates readiness to take up supply.
