How protesting Kaduna workers forced TCN to shut down all power stations, plunge state into darkness – Official

Despite initial resistance, Imo no members of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Kaduna State Chapter forced officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to shuy down all electricity transmissin stations in the State, the spokesperson of the transmission company, Ndidi Mbah recounted.
She said the development, which is as a result of the ongoing industrial action by the NLC in the State, resulted in the interruption of bulk electricity supply within the state since the early hours of Sunday.|
Mbah said on Saturday TCN officials resisted initial intense pressures from the Union officials, that all 33kV feeders radiating from substations within Kaduna State be switched off and shut down.
“Regrettably, the Union functionaries returned today (Sunday) with similar demands, amid palpable threats that could escalate and jeopardize national grid security.
“It was during this (Sunday) morning’s encounter that the TCN System Operators were forced to shut down the 33kV feeders from 6:36Hrs this (Sunday) morning. Before this, KADCO had earlier shut down its 11kV feeders, which it started de-loading from 3 am this (Sunday) morning,” she said.
Mbah who said TCN was mindful of the inconveniences the development would cause electricity customers within the state, urged them to show restraint and pray for a peaceful resolution of the crisis between the parties
She said only an atmosphere of peace that would enable the restoration of bulk power supply to substations for Kaduna electricity distribution company for onward distribution to its customers.
